Perhaps dead hair is easier to shape and maintain. Seems like a similar principle to taxidermy. I'd love to see that on a shop front :

Actually, isn't all hair dead anyway? It's all just advertising rubbish. I heard they just use fairy liquid in hospitals. I guess it lasts longer.
