The next day, arriving in Haugesund, Norway, took us 14 hours of hard travel. Many kilometers through deep snow banked roads and part of the way on two ferries. The scenery totally reminded me of Maine with tall pine trees and birch woods, frozen waterfalls and granite cliffs. Our hotel is situated on a waterway and it’s pouring with rain today. It’s o.k. ‘cause it all adds to the bleak northern vibe. I kinda like it.
Tonight we eat in a restaurant nearby and the recommendation is to try the whale meat which is supposedly like the most tender beefsteak. It would be a first. The reindeer steaks we ate the other night on one of the ferries was actually a big surprise. It’s my new favorite meat (sorry all you veggie folk). My youngest son is a vegan – he probably won’t talk to me after this.
