    Castle Rock!

We just spent a fun weekend in Germany, in the strangely named, Sauerland area. To be precise, we were in the grounds of the famous Von Furstenburg’s German family’s castle, pictured here. It was rather strange to have the entire Great Hall of the castle given over as our dining room with wild boar heads and stags heads mounted on the wall alongside family portraits, dating back down the centuries. It was pointed out to me that some of these people’s portraits had also appeared on certain German bank notes. How about that?!

The band we were performing alongside was, also, the strangely named Grobschnitt, well known back in the day for their brand of Kraut Rock. I actually really enjoyed them. They obviously had a great rapport with their audience and reminded me, in that regards of a band like Phish but sounding more akin to Yes at times.

Incidentally, we all loved saying the word Grobschnitt, which in actuality means ‘rough cut’ as in a type of tobacco. The weather was hot, the beer was cold and the audience rocked out.

It’s always good to visit Europe in the summer time.
